MUSIC FOR MYANMAR 2019 – AN ENCHANTED EVENING – An evening of enchanting music, dining and entertainment for a noble cause at Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon

On Friday 4th October 2019 Link for Aid, together with Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon, will proudly present “Music for Myanmar 2019 – An Enchanted Evening’ to raise funds for disadvantaged, deaf and orphaned children in Myanmar.  The stars of this sparkling event will be the acclaimed Irish singing duo Simon Morgan and David Shannon, and it will feature special guest singer Jewel.

Simon Morgan and David Shannon bring to Yangon their unique style of contemporary, Irish, opera, musical theatre and romantic favorites, and there will be an elegant dinner with free-flow wine and beer, as well as an auction of fantastic items including a luxury river cruise and a raffle of accommodation, dining and other amazing prizes.

Ms. Pamela McCourt Francescone, founder of the non-profit charity Link for Aid, said, “This is our sixth Music for Myanmar charity concert, and the funds raised will allow us to sponsor projects to make a meaningful difference to the lives of many hundreds of underprivileged children, also positively impacting on their families and communities. We will be supporting the Mary Chapman School for the Deaf in Yangon, the NAC-NLD Aids Centre in South Dagon Township, New Humanity Myanmar in Yangon and Taunggyi and the Nawarat Monastic School in Shwe Pyi Thar.”

Simon Morgan is one of Ireland’s top singers in styles ranging from opera and traditional Irish, to big band performances and all-time international hits. As a musical ambassador he has travelled with the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese, and he sang with Riverdance in the first performance ever of a non-Chinese group in The Great Hall of The People in Beijing. He sings leading operatic roles and is also a songwriter and arranger, having written music for many choral groups, arts organizations and orchestras, and for world-acclaimed tenor Placido Domingo.  Simon, who has taken his distinctive brand of singing around the world, makes a welcome return to Yangon, having made his Myanmar debut at Music for Myanmar 2017 with his wife, the Irish singer, actress and songwriter Lisa Lambe.

David Shannon started singing professionally at the age of 21 in the touring production of ‘Les Misérables’ and has consistently starred in musical theatre and concerts. He has appeared in many of the world’s best-loved musicals, singing the iconic leading role  of The Phantom in ‘Phantom of the Opera’, and Jean Valjean in ‘Les Miserables’ in London’s West End. This September he finished an extended sold-out run in the musical ‘Come from Away’ at the Phoenix Theatre in London. David first appeared on screen in Roddy Doyle’s critically acclaimed comedy The Snapper, directed by Stephen Frears, and is also a songwriter and recording artist. Recent projects include collaborations with The BBC Concert Orchestra, The Halle Orchestra, The RTE Symphony Orchestra, The Western Australian Symphony Orchestra, The Malaysian Symphony and The Gothenburg Opera Orchestra.

This Irish International singing duo has traveled the world together performing with some of the top orchestras from America to Asia and Europe to Australia, as well as their home country of Ireland. Their music is a classical crossover with a modern Irish feel and their two powerful voices seamlessly blend and create a quality that soars and delights audiences.

Guest star Jewel, who is known for her beautiful and melancholy song “Message”, has a very large fan base in Myanmar. With her powerful voice, she loves to sing orchestral music and has performed around Asia.
